Gonzo's Quest Megaways Review

Gonzo’s Quest Megaways is a six reel slot with up to seven rows and a potential 117,640 when all reels display the maximum number of rows; Gonzo lurks to the left of the reels in his continuing quest for the treasures of the mythical El Dorado.

The five high value symbols comprise the five stylised masks of various Aztec gods while the lower values are humans and creatures carved into rock; the question mark is wild and it will replace all others including the Free Fall bonus symbols to help form winning combos.

Gonzo’s Quest Megaways Bonus Features

Avalanche Gameplay & Multipliers

Gonzo’s Quest uses the Avalanche feature in which winning combos of blocks disappear and get replaced by more falling in from above; more combos can then be formed to continue the process with each one increasing the win multiplier from 1x to 2x, 3x and then 5x.

Free Fall

Landing three Free Fall gold symbols (or two plus a wild) in a winning combo will trigger the Free Fall feature and you’ll receive nine Free Falls (free spins) plus three for each extra Free Fall symbol in that original combo.

During this feature the Avalanche feature is still in use but this time the win multipliers start at 3x and increase to 6x, 9x and finally 15x with each win. More spins can be triggered within this round by landing another combo of Free Fall symbols.

Earthquake

This can occur at any time and the game will shake, destroying all low value symbols and replacing them with only high value ones.

Progressive Jackpots

This is triggered from the base game by landing three of the jackpot symbols which will award either the Big Drop Jackpot or the Daily Drop/Hourly Drop prizes which must be won within those time limits.

Verdict

The original Gonzo’s Quest is a great slot and this one with added Megaways only improves upon that superlative playability; if you liked the original then you’ll really appreciate the extra earthquake feature and the Red Tiger progressive jackpots.

Gonzo

Gonzo’s Quest is based on the fact that Gonzo is going on a quest for the lost gold city, Eldorado. It features unique Avalanche mills in which you can earn up to a multiplier of 5 for each winning round. There is also a free drop bonus feature that allows you to get 10 free spins and a multiplier up to 15 times on the winning rounds.

Gonzo’s Quest has 5 reels and 20 paylines and is offered by NetEnt. With that, you have great graphics and animations. Gonzo’s Quest is based on the conqueror Gonzalo Pizarro (Gonzo). His goal is to navigate the Amazon jungle to find the lost golden city, Eldorado. You can play at 20p at £ 50 a turn, so it’s suitable for all levels of slot machine players.

Gonzo’s Quest is different, that normal drum reels are not used – you will see symbols falling from above. They call it Avalanche Reels – it’s quite similar to the Da Vinci Diamonds Tumbling Reels. You will see the Maya symbols explode and disappear when you form a winning combination. Then the remaining symbols will fall into the empty spaces with new symbols appearing at the top to fill the spaces. Then, the multiplier in the upper right corner of the screen will change from 1x to 2x (and possibly to 3x and 5x). So basically, you can get a 5x multiplier on every winning round.

The main feature of Gonzo’s Quest is the Free Fall Bonus feature – it’s triggered by getting 3 Free Fall scatter symbols on 3 consecutive reels. You will get 10 free spins (or free falls) and you will see that the multiplier meter has now changed. With each victory, the multiplier will go from 3x to 6x to 9x to 15x. This means that you can get 10 free spins with a multiplier of 15. You will see that Gonzo gets very lively when you win – he dances and even makes a moonwalk! Finally, you can also trigger more free spins / falls.

Gonzo’s Quest is an online slot machine very popular in the Scandinavian countries and is becoming a cult machine in the UK. I think it’s a medium to high variance game that does not give me big winnings. However, when I win big, it tends to be big enough – for example, I won more than 350 times my bet a few times in the free spins feature. It was Platinum’s first platinum game from Net Entertainment, and this one is still very played (and loved) today.
